Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has invited the family of U.S. civil rights and farm labor leader Cesar Chavez to join him in proclaiming “El Grito”,
in celebrating the Mexican independence on Thursday evening, Sept. 15 from the National Palace before a large crowd assembled in the giant Zócalo or Plaza de la Constitución.
Five of Chavez’s eight children, Sylvia Delgado, Eloise Carrillo, Paul Chavez, Elizabeth Villarino, and Anthony Chavez, will join the Mexican president.
Other distinguished guest, former and current heads of state will be present in celebrating Mexican Independence Day
Present in the ceremony also is grandson Andres Chavez, executive director of the National Chavez Center.
"El Grito," was named for the battle cry uttered on Sept. 16, 1810, by Miguel Hidalgo, the Catholic priest.
This revolutionary priest's words made on that day launched the war that led Mexico gain its independence from Spain.
Coachella, has been the hub for commemorate the day and holding festivitiesuntil it was halted during the pandemic in 2020.
There will be various presentations including music and dances. Seven musical acts will perform, including Los Morros del Norte, Los 2 De La S and Grupo Karisma.
Live musical entertainment will feature Mariachi Coachella, starting at 5:30 p.m., and Banda la Reyna del Valle.
