Australian music legend John Farnham has come out of day-long surgery after doctors discovered a cancerous growth.

The 73-year-old performer's family released a statement confirming the cancer diagnosis and ongoing treatment.

Farnham's family on Tuesday night said the surgery was "completed at 7.30pm" after 11-and-a-half hours on the operating table.

Farnham has had health scares in the past. The singer was hospitalized with a severe kidney infection in 2019 that forced him to cancel several shows and left him dehydrated.

At the time, Farnham told the media he had been “very unwell,” The experience had prompted him to give up smoking and cut back on alcohol to look after his health.
